AXT to Present at the 2008 AmTech Research LED Technology Investment Conference

AXT, a manufacturer of compound semiconductor substrates, announced that Robert G. Ochrym, Vice President of Business Development, will present at the American Technology Research 2008 LED Technology Investment Forum at the New York Palace Hotel in New York, NY on Thursday, May 15th, at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Ochrym will address the requirements and outlook of gallium arsenide (GaAs) semi-conducting substrates for the LED industry.

A copy of his presentation is available on AXT's website, the company noted in a release.

LED market slow in 2Q08

The LED sector in Taiwan generally had weaker-than-expected sales in April despite players' optimism that orders would be picking up in the second quarter.

LED packagers Unity Opto Technology and Harvatek saw their April sales drop sequentially.

Cree Shares Sink on Earnings, Outlook

Shares of Cree fell in after-hours trading Tuesday after the company released fiscal third quarter earnings and a fourth quarter outlook that failed to meet analysts projections.

Taiwan LED makers shine in the market

The total operating revenue of Taiwan LED companies this March hit $188 million, up 18.4 percent month-on-month compared to the prior month's $161 million and up 17.17 percent y-on-y. This is according to the latest statistics from LEDinside, a subsidiary division of DRAMeXchange Tech Inc.

Taiwan LED makers combined revenues flat in January

It's reported that the total revenues of Taiwan LED makers listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) reached NT$5.7 billion (US$177 million) in January, up 1.8% from NT$5.6 billion last December.

Downstream packaging makers saw their total revenues reach NT$3.36 billion, up 3% sequentially, while LED chip makers totaled revenues of NT$2.34 billion, up 0.1% sequentially.

Lite-On Technology and Delta post strong revenues growth in January

Lite-On Technology and Delta Electronics, the two leading Taiwan makers of power supply products, continued to post strong revenues growth in January 2008 after their monthly consolidated figures hit the companies' highest levels, respectively, in December 2007, according to data released by the companies.

Lite-On posted consolidated revenues of NT$15.6 billion (US$493.7 million) in January, up 21.9% on year, although the amount was down 8.2% on month, the company reported.

The company's shipments of power supply and LED products remained strong in January, expanding by an annual rate of 48% and 19%, respectively, said the company.

Delta said that January consolidated revenues amounted to NT$12.33 billion, up 8.8% on month and 31% on year, with power supply products accounting for 60% of total revenues, followed by parts and components with 19%, electrical machinery with 5%, video products with 3%, and other items with 13%.

Both companies said revenues for February will be lower compared to those seen in January due to decreased working days in the month.

Cree LED revenue close to $100 million for quarter
