Post LCD TVs may be included in Taiwan energy-saving subsidies pr
Taiwan's government will be offering another set of subsidies valued at NT$670 million (US$ 22.7 million) for purchases of energy-saving home appliances, such as air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, and LCD displays 30 inches and above, according to industry sources. This is the second wave of such subsidies Taiwan's government has offered. Last year it provided NT$2,000 (US$60) per unit purchased for a total of roughly 300,000 units - a total of NT$600 million. However, TVs were not included with the subsidies but are expected to in the second round when the government makes its final decision next week.

Sources with Japanese LCD TV vendors said although there will be good promotional opportunities for the TVs during this year's Olympics in London along with Taiwan moving towards digitalizing its TV channels, the prices may be too much for people to bear amongst rising petroleum and electricity prices.

But other industry sources said the increase in electricity prices as of May 15 will make consumers more conscientious and frugal with energy consumption. That along with added subsidies by the government may be enough to push LCD TV sales in the second quarter, added the sources. For more LED Display information, please visit http://www.qs-tech.com

Taiwan local brands such as BenQ and Chimei stated the LCD TV market in Taiwan is looking more and more promising. Major LCD TV vendors, such as LG Electronics, are also optimistic that the TVs will sell well.

Meanwhile, Samsung unveiled its Smart TV and low-end LED LCD TVs at the beginning of this month while Sony is pushing its high end Internet TV. These new TVs along with the LED and CCFL price gap shrinking could boost the penetration of LED display sets, added the sources. More related: http://www.qs-tech.com/
