LED: the Future of Lighting Industry
LEDs are known by many people as they emit more light, produce less heat and use less electricity. They are used in many applications from flash light to nifty LED TVs today. Today, let’s talk about how does the LED come and who invented it. As LEDs are swing by the local hardware shop for a light bulb upgrade but unknown to many consumers and they have revolutionized and will continue to revolutionize the world in an unimaginable and amazing way.
LED is a semiconductor used for producing light without the help of a filament. Being different from its energy-draining predecessors, LED is touted as earth-friendly alternatives to fluorescent and incandescent lighting since they are energy-efficient and environment friendly. Although it retails higher than traditional lighting fixture, LED advocates much longer lifespan than ordinary light bulbs and greater savings for the average consumer in the long run.
Electroluminescence was first discovered in the early 20th century, but advancements in the study and application of electroluminescence didn’t appear until the second half of the 20 th century. The first LED is said to be created by a Russian scientist named Oleg Vladimirovich Losev in 1927.
SkewerThe first LED patent was filed in 1961 by Robert Biard and Gard Pittman, American experimenters who were working at Texas Instruments. Just like other evolving technologies, there is no single individual that can be credited for the development and discovery of LED.
