In the short term, LED backlighting is going to stay unprofitable in 2012F because of the drop in package price and downstream pricing pressure. Due to the panel makers’ operating losses and the weak demand trend of LED TV, LED backlight manufacturers still suffer from losses.

Even though LED penetration into LCD TV is expected to increase to 65% in 2012F, the overall number of shipments will be less than it should be.
