According to LEDinside, by 2012 the nation (the U.S.) will start to save over 25 percent of electricity on lighting due to the law congress passed on regulating new light bulbs manufactured. Carbon emission is aimed to be reduced by millions of tons.

The traditional light bulb, the commonly known Thomas Edison’s original light bulb, unexpectedly transformed itself into a powerful sentimental symbol. With consumer anxiously worry about losing the familiar old bulbs and quickly find themselves upset with government meddling.

President Bush signed and passed the new standard in year 2007. The new energy saving lighting including CFL and LED light bulbs are set to take a chunk of the lighting market in year 2012.

LEDinisde, marketing specialist, Christopher Tseng said he found the new type of energy saving light bulbs look similar to the old ones, but more efficient although they can cost range from $15 to $35 per bulb.

On the other hand Andrew Siegel, a interior designer who stopped by Home Depot in Syracuse to buy new low wattage bulbs for the house he is decorating, said he find the new alternative CFL lights to be harsh and cold. It (the new standard) is an invasion on personal liberty, by restricting the light bulbs now one can use.

LED (Light-emitting diodes) light bulb is able to make up where CFL light bulbs short. LED light bulbs come with a variety of color and wattage. Some even come with a dimmable feature.

Despite LED light bulbs’ merit, the price remains a main issue, with many customers skeptical toward this new alternative. “All I am looking for is a economical and energy efficient light bulb” Andrew added holding a $20 LED bulb. Noting that it is tested to last 22 years, he then said”If it burns out after 7 years, should I be able to find that receipt?”
