Eco-Shift Power Lights up a Cott Beverages Canada Factory with LEDs

Eco-Shift Power, one of Canada's leading energy management and lighting firms, has signed a contract with Cott Beverages Canada, a division of Cott Corporation (Cott) to retrofit one of Cott's production facilities in Mississauga, Ontario. Cott is a supplier of beverages distributing to multiple countries including Canada, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Europe. In partnering with ECOP, Cott expects over $170,000/year savings through ECOP's NetZero LED fixtures for Warehouse, Office and Outdoor applications.

The project consists of a full LED retrofit/upgrade for a 220,000 sq. ft. facility, including Cott's production plant, warehouses, storage space, office spacing, parking, and other external lighting. A total of 972 fixtures will be retrofitted and upgraded to LED equivalents. Existing fixtures include HID metal halides (High-bays, Wallpacks, and flood lighting), fluorescents (T12 and T8) and Halogen PAR lamps. These will be replaced with state-of-the-art NetZero 210W LED High-bays, 28W LED Wallpacks & Floodlights, 12, 16 & 24W LED Linear Tubes and 17W LED Par lamps.

The Cott retrofit is expected to result in financial energy savings of over 60%. The annual energy reduction is forecasted to be 1,027,364.72 kWh, translating to cost savings of over $170,000/year. The project has an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of approximately 99.9% allowing for ECOP to guarantee that the project will become cash flow positive in as little as 1.3 years. The annual kilowatt-hours of electricity saved through this project represent 708 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide kept from the atmosphere; the equivalent to annual greenhouse gas emissions of 149 passenger vehicles, 254 tons of waste sent to the landfill or CO2 emissions from 760,924 pounds of coal burned.

In addition, ECOP will be integrating their comprehensive light management system into all NetZero LED High-bays located in warehouse and production areas. Energy savings, experienced through dimming, scheduling and internal fixture diagnosis, will be provided in real-time to the centralized desktop PC controller verifying proposed energy savings calculations and providing information on where improvements can be made.

"With the idea of a smart grid becoming more predominant, more clients are starting to understand the importance of completing building upgrades with a smart building control component," states ECOP's CFO Jim Hughes. "This is important not only because it prepares your facility for what's to come, but allows the end-user to measure consumption on a rolling basis and use these measurements to help facilitate decision-making surrounding a building's energy efficient investments. In this regard, we respect Cott for realizing these potentials and taking a step towards a sustainable future," Hughes continues.

Cott is one of the world's largest producers of beverages on the behalf of retailers, brand owners and distributors. Cott produces multiple types of beverages in a variety of packaging formats and sizes, including products such as carbonated soft drinks, 100% shelf stable juice and juice-based products, clear, still and sparkling flavored waters, energy products, new age beverages, and ready-to-drink teas.

Cott's impressive manufacturing footprint, substantial research and development capabilities and high-level of quality assurance enable Cott to offer its customers a strong value-added proposition of low cost but high quality. With approximately 9,500 employees, Cott operates approximately 60 manufacturing facilities and 180 distribution facilities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Mexico. Cott also develops and manufactures beverage concentrates, which it exports to approximately 50 countries around the world.
