Dialight Unveils First-Ever 90mm LED Low-Beam to Meet SAE J1455

Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), an innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, today announced the launch and immediate availability of its new LED 90mm Low-Beam Headlamp for mass transit vehicles and commercial truck applications. The Dialight Low-Beam meets FMVSS108 and is the only such product on the market designed to meet the stringent SAE J1455 specification for ruggedized applications, making it ideal to withstand the harsh operating conditions for municipal busses and commercial truck fleets.

“This Dialight exclusive is a real game-changer, not only for its rugged design, superb energy efficiency and long life, but also the advanced optical system that ensures a more uniform, directional beam for added safety and visibility,” said Roy Burton, Dialight’s Group Chief Executive. The product is the industry’s first LED reflector-based design that utilizes a reflective bowl to create a more uniform, consistent light beam that maximizes output and minimizes light loss to improve visibility and safety for oncoming traffic.

“Backed by our 7-year warranty, this product promises to deliver dramatic cuts in maintenance costs for municipalities and commercial operators,” Burton said.

Drawing less than 14 watts, compared to the typical 40-55 watts with traditional HID headlamps, the Dialight 90mm Low-Beam reduces energy consumption, relieves wear and tear on the vehicle alternator and dramatically reduces maintenance costs by eliminating frequent change-outs.  With a 7 year warranty, the Dialight LED Headlamp also provides peace-of-mind that the lights will not require re-lamping until the first rehab, compared to the incumbent technology which would only last 500 hours.

The Baltimore (Md.) Transit Authority is the first customer to receive 42 new busses all equipped with the new LED units, which provide an exceptionally long life expectancy in excess of 10 years or 25,000 hours of output.

Designed for OEM integration or easy retrofit from halogen/HID units with no retooling, the Dialight LED unit leverages the brilliant white light and exceptional performance of the Lumiled LUXEON® Altilon LED. Engineered to withstand extreme temperatures and deliver superb thermal management, the Altilon is the solid-state technology of choice for high-performance automotive applications.

As an added bonus for transit authorities looking to leverage the energy- and maintenance-savings of the 90mm Low-Beam, the product is assembled in the U.S.A. at the Dialight manufacturing facility in Roxboro, NC and meets the requirements of the Buy American Act for federally funded projects.
