Soraa Appoints Lighting Luminary Jeffery Parker As CEO

Soraa, manufacturer of GaN on GaN™ LED technology, announced today that Jeffery (Jeff) Parker has joined the company as the new Chief Executive Officer. A seasoned lighting executive and innovator, Parker will leverage his keen business acumen, acquired expertise grooming companies to financial maturity, and his reputation as one of the industry's primary thought-leaders to propel Soraa forward on a trajectory of sustained growth and success.

Jeffery (Jeff) Parker appointed CEO of Soraa

"Jeff is a great addition to Soraa. His proven track record of driving innovative lighting products to the market is remarkable. Jeff's drive to pursue fresh ideas and ability to think outside the box will pay immediate dividends. His energy, ingenuity and industry insight will chart a lucrative course for the company in the coming years. Our team at Soraa is looking forward to working with Jeff and leveraging his experience in the lighting industry," said Charles Giancarlo, Chairman of Soraa.

Before joining Soraa, Parker was a senior executive with Rambus, one of the world's premier technology licensing companies, serving as the President of the Lighting and Display Technology Division that was focused on producing LED lamps and fixtures. Prior to that, he was the founder, Chief Executive Officer of Global Lighting Technologies, an LED backlighting company. Parker grew that business to more than $100M in revenue before selling the R&D division to Rambus in 2009 for $26 million. He also helped start Lumitex, a medical lighting company. Parker has over 25 years experience in the information display, LED, medical, and lighting markets. He has been granted over 100 patents covering inventions in LCD backlighting, fiber optics, LEDs, light management films, medical illuminators, and general lighting.

"Soraa was founded by the brightest minds in lighting -- a group of forward thinkers -- people who are never satisfied with settling for anything less than the best. As a result, the company has been able to push the boundaries of what is possible in high performance LED lighting, placing them at the forefront of the fast growing LED revolution," said Jeff Parker. "I consider joining Soraa a privilege and look forward to working closely with its world-class team of employees."

Founded in 2008, Soraa took a bet that GaN on GaN™ LEDs would produce more light per area and be more cost-effective than LED technology based on non-native substrates. Soraa had the vision of the future and beat the odds, leaving the rest of the industry to catch up ever since.

"Jeff is a passionate entrepreneur, successful technologist and possesses a succinct vision on how to sustain and broaden our position as a world leader in LED lighting technology. With Jeff at Soraa, the future is bright," said Shuji Nakamura, Founder of Soraa, inventor of the blue and white LED and professor at the Materials Department of the College of Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara.
