Revenue of GaN LED Products to Exceed 10 Billion U.S. Dollars in 2013

Research firm IHS expects that there will be more than 100 billion GaN LED units to be shipped in 2013 and the revenue from GaN LED products will exceed 100 billion U.S. dollars. IHS expects that the total revenue of GaN LED products applied in lighting will reach 3.4 billion U.S. dollars this year, and will come to 6.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2016.

IHS noted that GaN LED products are mainly applied in TV backlight, lighting and other fields, revenue from this part accounts for 85% of the income of the entire LED industry. Global LED market includes GaN LED, AlGaInP LED products as well as some other kinds of LED products.

If we take into account the entire LED market, including aluminum indium gallium phosphide, gallium nitride, and other LEDs, the target that 10 billion dollars revenue and shipments of 100 billion units would be achieved as early as 2010, but in view of 2013, these two indicators are expected to realized only by GaN LED market, it is thus clear that the development of GaN LED market has been very prosperous.

IHS said that compared with the market four years ago, the revenue from GaN LED is expected to double this year. Similarly, unit shipments in this year will also be tripled over 2009.

Shipment growth reached a historic record in 2010, not much change in 2011, and increased by 15% in 2012. IHS expects that the revenue in 2013 will remain stable. It is expected to achieve a substantial increase in 2014 general lighting and other applications, but IHS said that the revenue will be stable again in 2015.
