Lighting Science Group Appoints Former U.S. Department of Energy Communications Chief Andrew Beck

Beck Joins the Company as Chief Communications Officer

Lighting Science Group Corporation (OTCBB: LSCG), one of the world's leading LED lighting manufacturers, announced today that it has hired Andrew "Andy" Beck to serve as chief communications officer. A former director of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, Beck will oversee all aspects of the Company's communications—both internal and external—and advise the senior executive team on government affairs, investor relations and issues management.  He will report directly to chairman of the board and chief executive officer Jim Haworth.

"Everyday, our employees pioneer the science that's changing how people—both literally and figuratively—view the world. It's a story that requires a master narrator, one with vast experience engaging with the media, who couples a technical understanding of our work with its larger implications, and most importantly, who can compellingly communicate our story to a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences. That's what we've found in Andy," said Haworth, chairman and chief executive officer of Lighting Science Group.

Prior to joining Lighting Science Group, Beck was a senior vice president at public relations firm MWW Group, heading up its energy and environmental practice area. Beck also held the position of vice president of public affairs at PetroAlgae Inc., a renewable energy company. In this role, he acted as the company's spokesperson, frequently speaking on the intersection of U.S. government energy and environmental policy and its business ramifications, in addition to directing PetroAlgae's strategic communications, public outreach, government relations, and media relations operations.

Prior to entering the private sector, Beck led an active career in the public and association realm. As the director of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, Beck was the government's top energy spokesperson and communications strategist. He managed the planning and execution of all Energy Department announcements, events, public education and advertising campaigns and was the senior communications advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Energy. Beck has also served as the senior communications and outreach advisor to the head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and as a senior communications official at the U.S. Department of Transportation. In addition, he has worked for two prominent trade associations, the National Automobile Dealers Association and the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America.
