In 2015, over 2.5 million Ontarians purchased energy- saving products and took advantages of energy- saving coupons, according to data released by Independent Electricity System Operator, the provincial agency responsible for operating the electricity market and directing the operation of the bulk electrical system in the province of Ontario, Canada.

The coupons were available online and at participating stores, providing an estimated CAD $30 (US $21.57) saving on energy efficient products, including LED lights, power cords and programmable thermostats.

The most popular ones today are for LED bulbs, said Bard Swanson, a Kitchener Home Hardware store.

Consumers redeemed 2.58 million coupons in the first three quarters of 2015 based on IESO data, while the fourth quarter static has not been released yet.

Almost all of the released coupons in 2015 got renewed in 2016. However, thanks to rapid price drop of LED lights the amount of coupons for LED lights are slightly lower than 2016.

Meanwhile, IESO is to release more energy- saving initiatives throughout the period from 2016 to 2020.
