Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation files Patent Infringement Lawsuit against Red Phosphors in Korea

On December 20th, 2011, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (“MCC” "; Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshimitsu Kobayashi), has filed an infringement lawsuit in Seoul Central District Court against a US company, Intematix Corporation and a Korean distributor, GVP, to enjoin them from importing and selling their phosphor products, claiming that they infringe a red phosphor patent in Korea (No. 816693) which is owned by MCC and National Institute of Material Science.

The Korean patent No. 816693 (*) relates to a nitride-type red phosphor commonly known as CASN and SCASN (**), and LED, lighting equipment and image display etc. in which such phosphor is used. Should a party infringe any of MCC’s patents, MCC will take every appropriate measure without overlooking it.

(*) ・ As to CASN and SCASN phosphor, MCC owns many relevant patents other than the above patent.

(**) ・ CASN and SCASN : phosphors whose general formula is CaAlSiN3:Eu etc.
