Taiwan PIDA Predicts Taiwan’s LED Industry Would Rise 10%

According to Photonic Industry & Technology Development Association (PIDA), a Taiwan-based market research organization tracking the optoelectronics industry, Taiwan’s LED industry would rise 10% in revenue this year from 2011.

PIDA set the 2012 revenue goal at NT$200 billion (US$6.8 billion at US$1:NT$29) and estimated the Taiwan industry would start to grow in the second half in anticipation of climbing demand for LED lighting.

According to PIDA, the growth in LED lighting market in the second half will be fueled by the increased number of exhibitors signing up for the upcoming Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition and Taiwan’s Photonics Festival.

In the meanwhile, PIDA pointed out that LED lighting will become a major momentum of the LED industry worldwide this year in light of climbing demands driven by energy-shortage issue.

For Japan, nuclear power shortage has driven up demand for LED lamps after the March 11 earthquake, inspiring the estimation that LED lamps will account for 38% of Japan’s total light fittings this year.

In mainland China, public work projects generate demands for a total of 1.22 million LED streetlights this year alone.

As for Taiwan, electricity and gasoline rate hikes have brought in new opportunities for LED lamps. And Taiwan government is replacing 326,000 conventional streetlights islandwide with LED ones.
