Sumitomo Chemical Develops Printed OLED Panel Technology

Sumitomo Chemical announced in its press release that it has developed an new technology to produce polymer OLED panel in inkjet method (printing), OLED panel (using glass substrates in the size of 370x470mm) in the resolution of 423ppi can be produced with this new technology, and its resolution is close to that of the OLED panel developed with evaporation technique (depositing red, green and blue organic material on the glass substrate).

Sumitomo Chemical noted that OLED materials can only coat the places where necessary by "Printed OLED Panel Technology", so it not only can be used in low-cost production of OLED panels, but also it is applicable to the augmentation of the panel size, and Sumitomo Chemical will continue to improve the performance and process of polymer OLED materials in the future to contribute to the mass production of polymer OLED panels.

Sony and Panasonic announced on June 25, 2012 that they would jointly develop the next-generation OLED panel for TV / large-size display, and the "Printed" next-generation OLED technology Sony and Panasonic jointly developed will be the most suitable technology to reduce cost and produce large size, high-resolution OLED panel in quantity.

It is understood that once Sony and Panasonic establish the "Printed" OLED panel production technology, it will be available to produce large-size OLED panel with half of the cost of the current LCD panel, and it will be easier to form organic material film on the film-like substrate with printing technology, it is expected to produce bendable OLED panel.
