[Financial Updates] Lextar's Revenue in August Down 4.6% MoM But the Firm is Accelerating Product Innovation

Lextar, a Taiwan-based supplier of a board range of LED products, reported its revenue in August declined to NTD 1.06 billion, down 4.6% MoM and 9.95% YoY. The consolidated revenue as of the end of August reached about NTD 8.35 billion, down 9.37% YoY. The firm explained the two causes behind the results. First, the backlight demand remained flat, and only mid- and high-end backlight products saw noticeable shipment. Next, in the lighting segment, to ensure a certain level of gross margin, Lextar was very selective in its orders, so the revenue dropped.

The good news is that the development of Lextar’s new products is proceeding on schedule. In particular, the company recently received orders from new clients, which increased its supply, most notably the Core series, intended for headlamps, that has won from customers.

In terms of IR LED development, Lextar has lately launched several new products. The LED supplier collaborated with its customer to develop IR LED packages, currently under test, for 3D facial recognition. Amid a variety of biometric technologies, facial recognition witnesses the most growth and it is one of the new product segments that Lextar is eyeing. Its new products are predicted to be featured in smartphones and access control systems. In the future, it can also be adopted in robots, driverless cars and drones.

Lextar’s high power IR LEDs have already entered the space of high precision monitoring camera and the shipment stayed continuous. As for its UV LEDs, they have been massively applied on nail curing. It became a part of the supply chain to offer its products to the top five nail curing machine brands.
