Samsung Joins U.S. ‘Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR’ Campaign

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a market leader in consumer electronics and telecommunications, today announced that it has partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide consumer electronics and home appliances for the ‘Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR’ campaign event at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. through Earth Day, April 22.

On the scene of the event, a “Green” home was exhibited to show consumers how using ENERGY STAR qualified products can help them reduce energy consumption and save money. Samsung’s has provided its ENERGY STAR qualified consumer electronics and appliances throughout the house, from the kitchen to the living room to the home office.

Environmentally friendly building materials are also included in the interactive exhibit. Organizations around the country have partnered with EPA in the exhibit, including manufacturers, retailers, utilities and non-profit organizations, to host events that feature the ENERGY STAR House.

In the entire eco-friendly home, a 40-inch Series 6000 LED HDTV, a 26-inch Series 3 360 LCD HDTV, and a BD-P3600 Blu-ray player are provided by Samsung as centerpieces of the entertainment experience.

The 40-inch Series 6000 LED HDTV featured in the ENERGY STAR house utilizes edge-mounted LEDs as primary light source to boast superior contrast ratios and improved picture quality, ultra-thin design, and substantial decreases in energy consumption. Power consumption is reduced by up to 40 percent versus traditional LCD HDTVs of a similar size, easily meeting ENERGY STAR v3.0 guidelines. The new line also includes a power indicator menu and an optimized energy savings mode. The LED modules are mercury-free, which ensures cleaner manufacturing and safer recycling. The 26-inch Series 3 360 LCD HDTV, which is also ENERGY STAR v3.0 qualified, is perfectly suited for a versatile smaller room where the TV must meet requirements for both form and function.

Samsung’s BD-P3600 Blu-ray player promises top-notch video playback, comprehensive audio decoding, and unprecedented networking capabilities for an immersive, theater-like experience, all within the ENERGY STAR v3.0 guidelines. This impressive player includes state-of-the-art connectivity features including Netflix movie and Pandora music streaming to your TV over Wi-Fi and Full HD 1080p playback of Blu-ray discs. In addition, the BD-P3600 manages to keep its power usage at a minimum, even in standby mode when it uses only 1W of electricity.

The kitchen appliances exhibited by Samsung include the DMR78, a built-in dishwasher not only featuring savings in energy and water but also one of the quietest dishwashers in its class at 49dBA. The DMR78 is ENERGY STAR qualified, using only 289 kWh/year. In addition, it includes a hard food disposer to eliminate the need to prewash dishes and in turn, conserve water.

The WF448 is the first washer to offer families an extra large capacity of 4.5 cu. ft., which is the largest capacity residential drum washer in North America. The larger capacity means fewer loads; thus savings in energy and water. ENERGY STAR qualified, it offers plenty of power with a 1300 RPM maximum spin speed, yet noise and vibration is controlled to a minimum with its Vibration Reduction Technology. To match the WF448 washer, Samsung also provided a DV448AEP electric dryer. The DV448AEP offers 7.4 cu. ft. of drying capacity and includes Samsung’s advanced steam drying feature to reduce wrinkles and remove odors.

In the working and conserving section of the ENERGY STAR house, Samsung features its latest LCD monitor, the P2370. This 23” Full-HD LCD monitor is ENERGY STAR v3.0 qualified and consumes up to 33% less energy than other LCD monitors of similar size. The ENERGY STAR home office also features the Samsung CLX-3175FW wireless color laser multifunction printer. This ENERGY STAR qualified color 4-in-1 laser printer is one of the smallest and quietest in its class, resulting in less packaging and less noise pollution.

At the conclusion of the campaign, Samsung will donate the consumer electronics and home appliances in the ENERGY STAR House to the Boys & Girls Club of Washington, D.C.
