WestPark Capital, Inc.,finished a WRASP transaction resulted in raising a total of $13.6 million for Chinese LED lighting manufacturer, known as China Intelligent Lighting and Electronics. A WRASP is an alternative capital markets transaction process where a private company goes public through a reverse merger, with its common stock trading directly on the NYSE Amex or another senior exchange. China Intelligent Lighting and Electronics gained a listing on the NYSE Amex.

AIXTRON AG today announced a multiple tool order from Sanan OptoElectronics Co. Ltd., headquartered in Xiamen, China. The Sanan order for multiple CRIUS® 31x2 inch tools was placed at the end of 2009. The local AIXTRON support team has successfully commissioned the new HB GaN LED growth reactors at Sanan’s new purpose-built facility in Tianjin in the first two quarters of 2010.

All ten stadiums of the soccer World Cup are equipped with energy saving lighting technology by OSRAM. The LED luminaires LEDbeam produced by BEKA demonstrate how LED in particular are able to add that certain something to a stadium. Tyco Electronics launched a new Type CM solderless LED socket. It’s available for integration of the Cree XLamp MP-L multichip LED into light fixtures. The socket provides a termination for six 0.60mm2 connection pads,mounted on the top of the LED. To comply with wire or board applications, it is offered in two versions, the wire termination version and the board termination version. Each is offered with or without attachment features for optics.

The CAO Group, which is a dental OEM company, broadens licensing of LED dental curing patents portfolio to major dental companies. CAO helped pioneer LED technology in dental curing by using LED as light source. Its patents include LED structures, heat management, and broadband wavelengths for curing dental composites and adhesives. CAO has been licensed 31 U.S. and international patents to date. It has also established expertise in dental curing light manufacturing.

Taiwan`s major LED chipmakers ,such as Epistar Corp., Formosa Epitaxy Inc. , Genesis Photonics Inc., Lextar Electronics Corp., are expanding output to meet the LED supply explosively increasing supply challenge this year. Epistar Corp., has agreed private placements of less than 300 million shares, hoping raise nearly NT$26 billion in cash.

Philips Lumileds Lighting Company has ordered an additional AIXTRON G5 HT MOCVD reactor. According to Mike Pugh, Chief Procurement Officer of Philips Lumileds, the G5 system’s fully automated operations through integrated wafer handling causes their attention, so they choose G5 system at their San Jose facility.

Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) has integrated its supply chain of LED lightings. The major integrated company includes Nan Ya Photonics Inc., Formosa Advanced Technologies Co., Ltd. andFormosa Energy & Material Technology Co., Ltd.

Tekcore Co., Ltd., Genesis Photonics Inc., and Lextar Electronics Corp. launched over NT$11.3 billion expansion plans, which came from syndicated loans. Among the loan, Genesis received NT$1.5 billion from 12 banks, Tekcore secured a loan of NT$1.8 billion with Chang Hwa Bank, and 8 banks agreed to lend NT$8 billion to Lextar.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has chosenSpire Corporation as the recipient of a Small Business Innovation Research grant to develop a LED based solar simulator. Spire mainly produces solar simulators using pulsed light lamp light sources. It will develop a next generation solar simulator, based on LED technology.

Formosa Epitaxy Inc. has played a role on the global supply chain of pico projectors. Licensed by U.S.`s Luminus Device for use of V-GaN technology, Formosa's green LED chip is improved to more than 100lm/W, and being used in handheld and built-in pico projectors.

Unity Opto Technology Co. has tapped supply chains of Japan’s LCD TV brands Sony and Sharp. It plans to start delivery of LED light bars to Sony and Sharp’s designated makers of BLUs  in the fourth quarter of this year, and will be able to attain annual revenue of over NT$8 billion  for the whole year.

Osram releases new flexible, bendable LED light strips LEDsDeco Flex, using for design and decorative residential lighting. In these lightings, with a remote control, a selection of different colors and atmospheric lights can be selected. It also announced the Backlight Power LED light chains for illuminated advertising and backlighting of signs and logos.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) will in partnership with Stion Corp. of the United States to set up a factory in the Central Taiwan Science Park to produce CuInGaSe2-based (CIGS-based) thin-film solar cells. In this factory, Stion will transfer its CuInGaSe2 (CIGS) PV technology to TSMC in exchange for No.1 pure silicon foundry's pledge to supply it solar cells using the technology.

Bright LED made a deal with a Beijing-headquartered state-run corporation for LED billboards measuring 1,400 square meters. It’s estimated RMB17 million. According to the company’s chairman, J.R. Liao, the company`s revenue for May set a new high of NT$523 million. And it estimated the revenue for June will reach NT$600 million and for the entire year to top NT$6 billion.

Bridgelux released neutral white versions of ES and RS LEDs, with a colour temperature of 4,100K. ES devices offer 400, 800 and 1,200 lm, while RS device delivers add up to 3,400 lm, expanding the existing 3,100 lm warm white and 4,500 lm cool white RS range. ES and RS LEDs are square: respectively 25 and 50mm across. There is also a 'star' version of ES.RS devices operate at 2.1A with a forward voltage of 26V.

Osram Sylvania will introduce LED lamp to take a share of the market in August. The lamp uses 12 watts, 80 percent less electricity than the standard 60-watt incandescent, and emits nearly as much light. It's supposed to last 25,000 hours.          

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has given a reward of $99,927 SBIR Phase I contract to Universal Display Corporation. So Universal Display plans to increase white phosphorescent OLED lighting efficacy to meet Energy Star criteria.
