Disinfecting Power in a Small Package

A collaboration with Philips Lighting successfully brought to market an innovative UV-C LED module, which is smaller than traditional UV-C lamps and gives greater design flexibility for household appliance designers. UV-C light can disinfect water and prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and microorganisms in the water reservoirs of coffee machines and air purifiers, for example.

By incorporating Dow Corning® MS-1003 Moldable Optical Silicone into the design of the Philips UV-C LED Module, it could be greatly downsized. The silicone material added other benefits to the coin-sized module, including a watertight seal to protect interior module electronics. Our moldable optical silicone material transmits a high amount of light in the UV wavelengths and can be formed into the complex shape required for the seal.  Phillips Water Purifier
