Tons: Luminaires designs and lighting solution --the emphasis in the commercial lighting market

A pioneer of LED lighting, Tons has been investing in LED lighting product and producing high-efficiency lighting products including LED spotlights, track lights, wall lights, cabinet lights, and downlights since 2004. Lighting products based on LED light source are currently one of their fastest growing product lines. By interviewing Tons’ Chairman Mr. Tom Tang, LEDinside had the opportunity to further understand the current development and outlook of the commercial lighting market.

Tons currently focuses on ODM (Original Design Manufacturing), and their clients include lighting product companies, shops, industrial designing companies, traditional light source manufacturers, and 4/5 star hotels. An experienced LED lighting manufacturer, Tons has been in the LED lighting industry for nearly 10 years; by insisting in producing reliable products with innovative designs, they have provided customers with comfortable and pleasant lighting. Tons’ LED lighting products currently accounts for 60% of their total revenue, and they have entered the ODM supply chain of well known European lighting manufacturers such as Philips and OSRAM. Tons works very closely with OSRAM and mostly uses OSRAM’s light source products.

Tons indicated that design is crucial to professional lighting products, and manufacturers should continue to communicate with designers, industrial designing manufacturers, and lighting product brands. Therefore, professional lighting differs greatly from commercial lighting. Commercial lighting is focused on mass production, cost management, pricing strategy, and market channel development; Tons is dedicated to the B2B market, customized service, various designs, and certain lighting design solutions. Currently there are 30-40 salesmen at Tons who are responsible for designing products and evaluating energy-saving projects for their clients.

Lighting is one of the basic necessities to human society. The designs are simple and the products are to support LED lighting features. In other words, lighting itself should be more important than lighting products. Lighting manufacturers are striving to create an atmosphere that allows people to enjoy the space and see objects clearly when the light source and lighting products are concealed. Tons’ lighting design meets the specific requirements and is most likely to achieve this goal.

Tons indicated that the European lighting market is growing steadily, and in 2013, the major target markets will be Southeast Asia (Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia) and Japan. In addition, the Taiwanese and Chinese market may also bring a 20% profit. Numerous manufacturers have recently entered the lighting market, but in spite of the fierce competition, Tons still maintained excellent design and product quality, suggesting a solid business that was built on years of experience.
