Battleship USS Missouri Sails Into 21st Century with LED Lighting

The USS Missouri has signed an agreement with Axis LED Lighting to retrofit the museum battleship with state of the art LED lighting and has retained the consultant firm Allana Buick & Bers to assist them in the overall energy retrofit. LED Lighting will greatly reduce the energy needed to light the historic site. Axis LEDs reduce energy consumption by up to 70%, last three times longer than conventional lighting and generate virtually no heat when compared to conventional lighting.  In addition, the viewing experience will be greatly enhanced for visitors.  Standard fluorescent tubes show only 70% of the light spectrum and fail to match natural sunlight, while LEDs provide close to 95% of the light spectrum and offer a high contrast, color accurate light.

The USS Missouri is a floating museum filled with history. Weighing over 58,000 tons and measuring under 274.32 meters (900 feet) in length, The USS Missouri, or "Mighty Mo", was commissioned in June 1944 and served in WWII. The deck of her ship was the site of surrender by the Japanese in WWll. She also served in the Korean War and provided fire support in operation Desert Storm before being decommissioned in 1992. In 1998 the USS Missouri became a museum ship at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The USS Missouri was the last battleship built by the United States.

The same battleship was also  featured in the 2012 sci-fi movie Battleship directed by Peter  Berg. Berg seen on film site. (Photo Courtesy of Universal Studios)
