Unity Opto Yearly Revenue Dips

Taiwanese package manufacturer Unity Opto consolidated revenue for December was NT $455 million (US $15.1 million), a drop of 14.13 percent from November. Total revenue for 2013 reached NT $69.2 billion, a dip of 8.39 percent from 2012. Slack season and client stocktaking at the end of the year impacted December shipments. LED bulb order volumes doubled at the end of the year, due to new clients preordering mobile applications starting in 4Q13 and favoritism from European and U.S. markets. Although large sized backlight products were reduced due to seasonal factors, small sized backlight and lighting product revenue is still anticipated to have steady growth.

Unity Opto has already begun releasing new product projects for clients, providing LED package solutions that are highly efficient and have high CRI. With a slim backlight design and high cost/performance stipulations, the company has already received new client backlight orders for 1Q14.

With countries banning incandescent bulbs, European and U.S. have provided consumer subsidies for energy saving products. LED bulb prices in 4Q13 have already dropped to the US $10 sweet spot. Unity Opto has a long history of establishing market channels in the U.S. and Europe, and with products continuing to pass Energy Star certification, volume of client lighting orders in 4Q13 increased dramatically. Single quarter lighting product revenue has surpassed 25 percent and is estimated to continue to rise in 2014.
