U.S. football team Miami Dolphins’ home stadium, Sun Life Stadium, will become one of the leading NFL football stadiums in the country to replace traditional lights with LEDs, reported Miami Herald.

Eaton Ephesus has been commissioned by the team to install LED lights at the team’s newly constructed football stadium in Florida that is expected to be completed by 2017.

The lighting upgrade is expected to cut the stadium’s energy bill by 75%.

“As we researched LED lighting options in the marketplace that would help us transform Sun Life Stadium, it became evident that the digital lighting solution developed by Eaton’s Ephesus Lighting was a very competitive, well-engineered system that would meet our unique and specific needs,” said Bill Senn, the Dolphins’ Senior Vice President of stadium renovations.

Lighting installations will be part of the football team’s US$ 425 million renovation project, which is aimed at improving surface light levels and reducing glare.

The upgrades in 2016 reduced the stadiums seatings from 76,018 to 65,326, but doubled the unique seating experiences from eight to 16 compared to 2014.

Video board square footage was also doubled from the previous 1,114.84 square meters (12,000 square feet) to 2,081.03 square (22,400 square feet).

Other upgrades include exponentially raising shaded areas in the stadium to 92% in 2016, compared to the mere 17% of shaded areas for fans in 2014.

The Dolphins are one of the first football teams to switch to LED lighting technology, the Minnesota Vikings were the first to adapt the advanced lighting system in 2014.
