Dubai Buildings to be Lit Up with “World’s Most Efficient” LED Lamps

The Dubai Municipality has recently signed a MOU with two major developers to boost the use of energy-efficient lighting.

The two local developers, Emaar and Dubai Properties Group (DPG), will install the Dubai Lamp, said to be “the world’s most energy efficient commercially available LED lamp,” at their upcoming real estate projects, according to state news agency Wam.

Under the four-year agreement, the Dubai Municipality will work with other parties to install Dubai Lamp in their buildings and facilities, as well as assist in conducting studies to quantify energy savings and related benefits of these lamps.

The Municipality will also coordinate with other parties to promote and advertise the LED lamp through various media channels.

The Dubai Lamp, developed by Philips Lighting in a research partnership with Dubai Municipality in 2016, is said to reduce electricity used for lighting by up to 90%.

Philips Lighting will be working with Dubai Municipality to supply two million Dubai Lamps for residential and professional use across the city in 2017. The number is expected to increase to 10 million lamps by 2021.
“The Dubai Lamp is an innovation that we at Philips Lighting are very proud of on a global level,” said Paolo Cervini, a regional president for Philips Lighting.

“Its groundbreaking technology and unmatched energy efficiency along with its ever-growing popularity will not only bring about a positive change, but also contribute to Dubai’s sustainability goals and its commitment to a green economy,” Cervini added.
