Alpha Presents Low Temperature Assembly of LED Packages on PET & Flexible Substrates at SMTA Int'l

Alpha, the world leader in the production of electronic soldering and bonding materials in collaboration with Multek, a global supplier of rigid and flexible printed circuits, will present a technical paper on mid-power LED package assembly on PET substrates, at the upcoming 2014 SMTAI show to be held in Rosemont, Illinois.

Rahul Raut, Alpha R&D Manager for Solder Paste and Strategic Initiatives will present the paper, “Low Temperature Assembly of LED Packages on PET & Polyimide Flexible Substrates,” on Wednesday, October 1st from 4:00pm – 5:30pm in Room 44.

Enabling use of PET flexible circuits can provide significant system cost benefits compared to either FR4 rigid boards or Polyimide flexible circuits.   In this study Alpha utilizes its new generation low temperature solder paste, Lumet™ P53 with SBX02 alloy which provides low temperature LED package on PET substrate reflow capability, which enables the use of PET flex substrates.  Lumet™ P53 with SBX02 alloy for LED package on PET assembly also enables the use of SAC or MAXREL™ solder based die attach in package, by providing the required temperature cascade for preventing secondary reflow of the die attach layer.

“Alpha’s strong understanding of emerging trends in LED markets and applications, and our strong focus on R&D has resulted in several innovative products for the LED market.  We look forward to presenting our work on mid-power LED package assembly on PET flex circuits at SMTAI”, said Ravi Bhatkal, VP of Energy Technologies at Alpha.

In his current role Rahul is instrumental in planning, coordinating and executing New Solder Paste Product Development (NPD) initiatives from concept to launch. He is also responsible for managing Alpha’s Strategic Initiatives. Raut has an extensive experience in NPD (New Product Development) and Technology Platform developments. He has published more than 30 papers in areas covering Assembly Processes, Thermal Management, Failure Analysis and in areas covering Emerging Technologies such as LED & PV. Raut holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and MS in Industrial Engineering. He is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
