Marl International Launches Brightest and Most Efficient Ever LED Devices

Marl International announced that it will be offering the second generation of Citizen Chip-on-Board (COB) LED die, which are its brightest and most efficient ever production LEDs. The new LEDs are up to 33% brighter and up to 38% more efficient than the first generation Citizen COB LED die.

Marl International is offering new generation Citizen LEDs in a range of five types with light outputs from 100 lumens to 20,190 lumens, to replace a variety of light sources from a 10W incandescent bulb to a 300W mercury floodlight. The LED die can deliver up to 176lm/W. Citizen’s first generation could deliver up to 17,675 lumens and achieved up to 155 lm/W. Generation 2 die are a drop-in replacement for the equivalent first generation Citizen COB devices.

Havells Sylvania Europe uses Citizen generation 1 LED die in its Beacon range of lights for museum applications, and will be switching to using the new second generation product. According to Dave Warburton, Concord Strategic Business Manager, Havells Sylvania Europe Ltd., “We have an exceptionally close working relationship with Marl and they drew our attention to the new die very quickly. We were able to evaluate them as soon as samples were available from Citizen. Our customers are internationally recognised museums, who are particularly concerned with light quality. The new LED die offer improved uniformity of output as well as greater colour consistency. They are also brighter and more energy efficient than the existing products and there is minimal if any design effort involved in making the change.”

With five basic types offering hundreds of different combinations of light level and colour, lighting designers can create a wide variety of lighting effects within a standard luminaire simply by changing the LED insert. The generation 2 products also offer increased uniformity of light distribution, and are suitable for a wide range of applications from standard bulb replacement to floodlighting and street lighting. Marl is offering a simulation tool to help designers select the best product for their application.

The high luminous flux and the exceptional efficiency of the whole range has been achieved by using Citizen’s Chip on Aluminium technology to improve heat dissipation, and through careful selection and optimisation of the construction materials. The second generation COB products benefit from further development of this technology.

Commenting, Adrian Rawlinson, Managing Director of Marl, said, “Citizen generation 1 COB LED die led the industry in terms of brightness and efficiency. The new generation 2 products improve on the performance of these exceptional products, maintaining Citizen’s leadership position in high wattage LEDs. Marl is proud to be working with this world leader in LED lighting technology.”
