WeMo Brings IFTTT Compatibility to WeMo Smart LED Bulbs

WeMo® today announced an updated version of its award-winning WeMo App, which brings IFTTT support to the WeMo LED bulbs and WeMo-enabled LED lighting solutions from OSRAM SYLVANIA. WeMo also announced new, lower pricing for its WeMo LED Starter Set and WeMo Smart LED Bulbs, making it easier and more affordable for consumers to try connected lighting via the WeMo experience.

“WeMo is the most approachable entry point to the smart home and one of the most robust connected ecosystems on the market, but we continue to seek out ways to improve our platform and deliver more value for our consumers,” said Peter Taylor, director of product management for WeMo. “Adding IFTTT compatibility to the WeMo LED bulbs unlocks a world of new customization options for household lighting and helps users free up valuable time and energy, allowing them to live more fully in the present.”

Adding IFTTT compatibility to the WeMo LED bulbs builds upon the successful relationship between IFTTT and WeMo and creates an even larger ecosystem for controlling and customizing household lighting. WeMo LEDs can now trigger or be triggered by a variety of online apps and services, including geofencing, text messages and social media. WeMo users can now receive a text when their kids get home and turn on the lights, set the lights to flash when they get a new Tweet, or set the front porch lights to come on the minute they turn onto their street so it isn’t dark when they pull in the driveway.

Available for both iOS and Android, the improved WeMo app, version 1.12, also delivers integrated temperature and color-changing support for the WeMo-enabled OSRAM LIGHTIFYTM bulbs, including: the LIGHTIFY Tunable White 60 bulb, the LIGHTIFY Gardenspot Mini RGB, and the LIGHTIFY Flex RGBW. Sold separately, each of these products are now able to connect to the WeMo Link and be controlled through the WeMo app. Additional enhancements include improvements to device discovery and a direct, in-app link to the WeMo Community. The WeMo Community is a forum of WeMo users and a place to share use cases, DIY projects, and troubleshooting tips.

WeMo also introduced a new pricing plan this week, lowering the cost of its WeMo Smart LED Starter Kit from $99.99 to $49.99 and Smart LED bulbs from $29.99 to $24.99. This new pricing structure makes it easier for customers to take advantage of smart lighting and will help spur the adoption rate of the overall industry.

“We know that connected lighting is the gateway to the smart home,” said Taylor. “We want to make sure that we make it as easy and affordable as possible for consumers to experience connected lighting and join the growing family of WeMo users.”

Availability

WeMo version 1.12 for iOS and Android will be available at no cost and downloadable this week in the App Store and Google Play Store, respectively. The WeMo LED channel on IFTTT will be online today. WeMo LED bulbs are available now at Belkin.com and retailers worldwide, with a new lower MSRP of $49.99 for the WeMo LED Starter Kit and $24.99 for single WeMo LED bulbs.
