UV LED Manufacturers Showcased Up-to-date Applications at OPIE’ 16

Many leading manufacturers that provide innovative technology displayed their up-to-date solutions at OPIE’16, which took place from May 18 - 20 in Yokohama, Japan. OPIE’16, which was jointly held with LASER EXPO 2016, IR-UV EXPO 2016, Space & Astronomy EXPO 2016, LENS EXPO 2016 and Optical Measurement & Positioning EXPO 2016, also co-located with the new Micro & Nano EXPO 2016.

Based on the EXPO report of OPIE’16 released by the EXPO, most of the exhibitors are laser, lens and IR + UV manufacturers. Visitors are mainly manufacturers who intend to collect data, purchasing products and adopting new applications. The total visitors rose to 15,714 and is considered to be a signpost of the technology development.

Leading manufacturers that showcased their technology at IR+UV EXPO include High Power Lighting (HPL), Nitride, the second large UV-A manufacturer, Phoseon, CCS, ProLight Opto and Unistars.

Applying UV LEDs in exposure units has always been challenging to manufacturers. The main reason is that the optical design of UV LED makes it difficult to emit parallel beam. Mercury light can penetrate glass tube and turn into parallel light while the brightness of LED light will degrade as it penetrate the glass tube, causing unnecessary loss. However, the UV LEDs from HPL utilizes unique optical design that achieves parallel light at less than 2° while delivering a more uniformed light emission. The result is ideal for applications in PCB, LCD and IC exposure units.

Meanwhile, the product design focuses on the adoption of new equipment. Currently the UV LEDs from HPL are successfully being introduced to Taiwanese equipment manufacturers. Samples of UV LEDs are also being send to Japanese clients. HPL will continue to strengthening its stray light processing, creating uniformed and concentrated light in the future.

As HPL has been developing optic designs and has accumulated many years of experience the company also develops water cooling system upon receiving advice from its clients. As the existing water cooling systems tend to have temperature equalization and heat exchange efficiency issues, which also lead to issues of inefficient cooling system for years. HPL has been developing cooling system that uses injection to increase pressure. As cold water is placed in the inner tubes and stably being sent from holes to the hot water area, it stabilizes the temperature and reaches overall improvement in curing efficiency.

The company is optimistic about the future of UV-C LEDs application in air purification, water disinfection, food preserving and medical disinfection and has launched UV-C LED package line up to increase market inquiries on the market. The company uses LED chips of international LED chip manufacturers but it is considering to adopt Taiwanese LED products. The challenges of UV-C LED were resolved and that HPL has a comprehensive technical know-how about plating on glass. The reliability and stability of its products can withstand market tests.

Unistars also showcased its CSP LEDs.

Unistars is promoting its CSP LED product range, providing full spectrum product family and customized service.

CCS is the largest automated Optical Inspection (AOI) testing equipment manufacturer and that the company also provides UV LED product line up for selection.
