Taiwanese LED manufacturer Genesis Photonics Inc. (GPI) has sealed a NT $2.55 billion (US $80 million) loan deal with a syndicate of local banks in Taiwan to repay loans and expand the company’s operation capital.

San'an Optoelectronics announced that it  licensed the U.S. LED patents it recently acquired from a major Japanese company to its subsidiary, Luminus Devices.

Shunfeng International Clean Energy Limited (SFCE) announced that it has signed an MOU with Lattice Power to acquire a 51% ownership stake in the company. SFCE's successful bid in Lattice Power is a milestone for the listed company as it transitions to become a global low carbon solutions provider. Lattice Power's gallium nitride (GaN) on silicon technology is exclusively patented worldwide, offering significant cost advantages compared to sapphire substrate technology LED. The partnership expands SFCE's portfolio and increases the profitability of the listed company.

Digital Lumens announced strategic expansions to its team, with Kaynam Hedayat joining as Vice President of Product Management, and Jason Hanna as Director of Software Products. Chinese startup Lattice Power has emerged as an unexpected bidder in the auction of Philips lighting component business, reported Reuters.

It seems Samsung Display has not quite given up on OLED TVs yet, and has no intention of letting rival compatriot LG Display become a monopoly in this sector, according to a recent Reuters report.

TrendForce, a global market intelligence firm, announced today that it has become the majority shareholder of Topology Research Institute, and has fully acquired operation and management rights. Kevin Lin, the CEO of TrendForce, will also hold the title of Chairman of Topology. Apple’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partner Foxconn’s production capacity has tightened amid high global iPhone 6 sales. The company, however, intends to turn around its outsourcer image in the LED business, according to China-led.org report.

The supervisory board of OSRAM Licht has appointed Olaf Berlien as new chief executive officer (CEO). Berlien, 52, will take over his new function in January 2015. At the same time, Wolfgang Dehen will leave the company at his own request and by amicable agreement.

China Fangda Group (Fangda) announced a day earlier that it will be investing RMB 100 million (US $) to establish a new energy subsidiary to develop LED industry technologies and other new energy technologies including photovoltaics and building integrated photovoltaics applications, according to a report by China Securities Journal.
