Osram Supports “Healthy Offices” Survey

A research project conducted by Twente University, The Free University Amsterdam and the property consultant CBRE Holland once again confirms the interplay between work surroundings and health as well as the well-being and performance capacity of people. Osram installed a “Human Centric Lighting” solution for the survey at the headquarters of CBRE in Amsterdam – consisting of a time-controlled lighting system with a circadian-friendly lighting sequence. The results verify: 76 percent of participants felt happier, 50 percent healthier and 12 percent performed better in an objective experiment.

293 nm UVB LED More Efficient in Geneating Vitamin D3 than Sunlight, Found Boston University

Research published today in Scientific Reports shows that light from RayVio's 293nm ultraviolet (UV) LED is more efficient than sunlight at producing vitamin D3 in skin samples. Tyler Kalajian and his research team, led by Dr. Michael F. Holick, Ph.D., M.D., and supported by Boston University School of Medicine and a Boston University Ignition Award, found that skin samples exposed to RayVio's UV LED for just 0.52 minutes produced more than twice as much vitamin D3 as samples exposed to 32.5 minutes of sunlight.

Tuning Light As Per Circadian Lighting Systems

Light a natural factor, enables us to see our world in vibrant color and striking details. It also acts as an indication of when our body must wake up and sleep. If you acutely discern from sunrise to sunset, the color and intensity of the light fluctuates from warm amber to bright light during the day, and back to warm light at sunset, followed by darkness in the night. The nature set-cycle of light brightness and intensity has an intense influence upon health of living beings as it affects the body’s circadian system. The human body has a 24 hour rhythm that has established sleep/wake patterns, and control of physiological functions such as hunger, temperature and blood pressure.
