This is an evolution story of a long-running business. With a history of almost a century in general lighting, Munich-based conglomerate Osram went through several fierce competitions in the industry in the LED era and finally in 2016 decided to divest its historic light sources business, selling it to a Chinese consortium.

The inauguration ceremony of Osram’s Kulim Plant ended yesterday on a high note. Apart from Osram’s executive board, Mustapa bin Mohamed, Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry also attended the ceremony, representing the determination of Malaysia to recruit high-tech enterprises.

Osram's new LED chip factory in Kulim, Malaysia, begins operation on time. "We are both on schedule and within budget," pointed out Olaf Berlien, CEO of OSRAM Licht AG, during the opening ceremony in Kulim on Thursday.
