It’s said that the Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) has intended to install solar-powered LED streetights in Gurgaon. The National Defence Academy (NDA) of India has decided to replace about one lakh lights with LED lamps in key establishments of the academy for energy saving. At present, The NDA has nearly 3,100 street lamps, mostly sodium or mercury vapour lights ranging from 75 watts to 250 watts. And 30 street lights have been replaced by 28-watt LED lamps on an experimental basis. Reportedly, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has planed to install new LED traffic signals at 61 locations in the city at a cost of about Rs 3 crore in the coming financial year 2011-2012. Indian Western Railways will replace the destination signboards on outstation trains with LED boards to provide train number, next stop and station name. The Central Railway (CR) in Mumbai has planed to replace the remaining 1,700 signals on its suburban network and has sought approval from the Railway Board to help reduce costs and maintenance of signals and eliminates instances of signal failure. Each signal post usually consists of four colored lamps, one each of green and red and two amber ones.

MIC Electronics Limited has been reported to bags multiple LED orders worth Rs 23.89 cr. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), international NGO the Climate Group and HSBC reported that they would start India’s largest LED Street-lighting pilot program in Kolkata, which installed over 270 lights on several of the city’s arterial roads.
