Damage resulting from bacteria and biofilms has wide ranging impact across industries which is estimated to cost several hundred billion dollars annually. Supports Total Organic Carbon (TOC) monitoring in water. High levels of TOC can degrade industrial water purification systems – reducing semiconductor yields, contaminating pharmaceutical batches and damaging power and steam generation equipment. Japanese Asahi Kasei Acquired Crystal IS

Recently, Japanese wholly owned subsidiary of Asahi Kasei has acquired Crystal IS, the germicidal LED technology development company, to accelerate commercialisation of its UVC LEDs grown on AlN substrates. The effective date of the merger was December 28, 2011. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Crystal IS and Japan's Asahi Kasei Join Up to Develop LED Substrates

Crystal IS Inc., a developer of ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UVC LEDs), has signed a joint development agreement with Japan's Asahi Kasei Corp.  Asahi Kasei has also invested $2 million in Crystal IS. Under the agreement, the two companies will create a manufacturing process for large diameter aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates based on Crystal IS proprietary intellectual property.
