New Echelon Connected Lighting Solution Delivers Healthier LED Streetlighting Without Compromising Safety and Visibility

Internet of Things pioneer Echelon Corporation is currently conducting what is believed to be the first successful deployment of so-called “white tunable” connected streetlighting with the municipal leaders of White Bear Lake, a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota and design firm Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. The new Lumewave by Echelon solution can dynamically regulate the amount of potentially unhealthy blue light emitted from outdoor lighting. With this ground-breaking innovation, city managers can adjust streetlight color from soothing warm yellow to bright blue-white based on activity levels, time of day, weather and events. Dimming levels can also be remotely adjusted, making the system ideal to aid visibility for first responders, security professionals and more.

Northeast Group Ranks Echelon as Top Three in Global Smart Street Lighting Systems

Internet of Things pioneer Echelon is ranked among the top three providers of smart connectivity deployments in a global study of the LED and "smart" networked street lighting market. The independent study was recently published by Northeast Group which analyzes and forecasts the market from 2016 through 2026, and finds that the next wave of Internet of Things (IoT) investment will take place in the public outdoor street lighting market. According to the report, “Echelon was an early mover in the smart streetlight field.” The company also captured the number one position in Asia-Pacific for installed market share.

Networked LED streetlights illuminate crime-ridden section in San Francisco

LED streetlights are to illuminate the dark in a most crime-ridden block in the city of San Francisco. And the Mayor Gavin Newsom will visit the section today to test the energy-saving light source by lighting four street lights using his iPhone. LED street lights consume much less power than traditional streetlights. And the lights with computer chips are networked over power lines thus can be shut off when no one is around. Besides, LED lights require far less maintenance and are tough to break. But these are not the most important for this weirdest section in the city.
