Samsung Display plans to raise small to mid-sized OLED panels production by 35% in 2017 to meet surging OLED panel demands from Chinese smartphone manufacturers, Korean media Pulse cited a Samsung Display official saying.

Sharp President Tai Jeng-wu confirmed last Saturday market rumors that Cupertino-based Apple will be adapting OLED screens in its next generation iPhones, reported Nikkei Asian review.

Foxconn and its newly acquired Japanese subsidiary Sharp might be making OLED panels for smartphone makers in China by 2019, a Nikkeireport cited those familiar with the matter saying.

LG Display will be investing another KRW 140 billion (US $123 million) into mass producing OLED panels for lighting during first half of 2017, reported Nikkei Asian Review.

LG Display announced that it will invest in a new OLED light panel manufacturing facility. The planned facility will be the first 5th generation (1000 x 1200mm) OLED light panel manufacturing plant in the world. It is to be located in the South Korean city of Gumi, where it will produce a range of OLED light panels.

The funds will be used to support its accelerating customer growth in Asia, the EU and the U.S., and also to hire application engineers, product managers, manufacturing engineers, and staff scientists.

OLED lighting panels (P07 Series) made by Lumiotec have been adopted to illuminate a highlight of Special Exhibition” Treasured Masterpieces from the National Palace Museum, Taipei” 1 currently held at the Tokyo National Museum. The OLED panels are adopted to illuminate 15 exhibition cases, including “San Shi Pan” 2 (made in Western Zhou dynasty, B.C.8 – 9th century)”.

LG Display (LGD) will supply OLED panels to German automotive manufacturers including Daimler-Benz, according to a Korea Economic Daily Report.

LG Display has announced plans to invest US $788.1 million in its OLED panel production line to meet growing global demand, according to Korean news source Yonhap News Agency. 

LG Chem is currently participating in the biannual Light + Building Exhibition held at Messe Frankfurt. 

Konica Minolta, Inc. (Konica Minolta) will be showcasing its latest breakthrough technologies at “Light + Building 2014,” the world's largest trade show for lighting and architecture, held in Frankfurt, Germany, from March 30. The company will exhibit demonstration models using flexible OLED lighting panel prototypes with two unique features: the world's first color tunable function* and the world's thinnest* form factor.

In Japan, a digital signage system using OLED panels is being tested at Ebisu station this week. The test is carried out by JR East Group's JR East Mechatronics Co Ltd and East Japan Marketing & Communications Inc. Last year at the same ticket gate, the two companies tested a digital signage using color electronic paper modules made by Hitachi Ltd and Fujitsu Ltd, and the pixel counts of the modules were 320 x 640 and 400 x 600, respectively.
