More than 25 years ago, the Topled set a worldwide standard as the first surfacemountable LED. Osram Opto Semiconductors now presents the latest generation, the Topled E1608, which has a package that is smaller than its predecessor models by factor 20. Despite this considerable miniaturization the low-power LED is bright, reliable and robust. The compact Topled offers greater options and greater design flexibility, particularly for car interior applications.

OSRAM and MLS to Carve Out Their Positions in LED Lighting Market with LEDVANCE Deal, Says LEDinside

German-based lighting manufacturer OSRAM has agreed to sell its lamp business unit LEDVANCE to a Chinese consortium that is led by IDG Capital Partners and includes LED manufacturer MLS and Yiwu State-Owned Assets Operation Center. The sale was announced on July 26 and represents a landmark deal in which Chinese LED manufacturer successfully acquires an oversea target with the help of an international investment group. “The sale of LEDVANCE shows major international lighting companies are exiting the LED lighting business due to its unprofitable outlook,” said Roger Chu, research director of LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. “On the other hand, Chinese LED lighting companies have an overall cost advantage and are assisted by the government, so they can take this opportunity to expand their market shares.”

New OSRAM Ostar Stage LED For Even Brighter Stage Lighting

Osram Opto Semiconductors has introduced a new LED for stage lighting. Compared with previous members of the product family, the new Osram Ostar Stage offers more than twice the lumen output with a component surface that is only 30 percent larger. The new version contains two square-millimeter high-current chips per color that can handle a maximum of 4.5 amps (A) per chip. This will enable moving heads for stage and exhibition lighting to be more powerful and more compact at the same time.

New Light Creates Bright Sparks

Osram’s study proves positive effects of lighting on cognitive performance of students ZNL TransferZentrum für Neurowissenschaften und Lernen (Transfer Centre for Neuroscience and Learning) have conducted an investigation with lighting manufacturer Osram on students’ performances under different lighting conditions at two schools in Ulm, Germany between November 2011 and Feburary 2012. The aim of this investigation was to figure out whether lighting that simulates daylight could increase students’ concentration and cognitive performances. This anticipation has been positively proven. Students who had taken courses and tests in biologically optimised lighting classrooms performed better than students who were in ordinary lighting classrooms.
