The new Quantum Colors conversion technology from Osram Opto Semiconductors will set new standards in LED backlighting for TV displays as it offers much better coverage of the color space, significant cost savings compared with conventional quantum dot sheets, and zero cadmium. For many years leading manufacturers of televisions have been demanding an ever broader color space. The TV standard is once again moving to a larger color triangle with Ultra HD. 

Market insiders in Taiwan recognize the LED TV backlight market entered seasonal adjustments in third quarter, but the adjustments are expected to impact LED manufacturers revenue in September, according to a China Times report. Taiwan’s LED chip manufacturers revenue were impacted by inventory adjustments from July to August 2014, while LED package manufacturers have kept up growth.

According to LEDinside, a research division of global market research company TrendForce, affected by global economic downturn and a decline of orders visibility, LED price for TV backlight applicationprice has fallens by 5-7% in Q4’12. The price of 7030 / 7020 LED package for major edge-lit LED TV application packages decreaseds by around 7% in Q4, and the price of 3528 LED package drops approximately 5% in this quarter.

According to the latest price survey conducted by LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, the price downtrend persisted in the LED market in 3Q11. The price of LED (5630) for TV backlight dropped by 8-15%. Since TV backlight products will start adopting 7030 spec in 2012, South Korea manufacturers have been aggressively digesting the inventory of older specification, which result in a huge price gap in the market.
