Patent Reexamination Board of the SIPO Dismisses Intematix Suzhou Lighting’s Claim Against Red Phosphor Patent Owned by Mitsubishi Chemical and NIMS

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Ochi) and National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS; Location: Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki; President: Kazuhito Hashimoto) today announced that the Patent Reexamination Board of the State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C. (SIPO) has dismissed every aspect of the claim, filed on November 2, 2016, by China’s Intematix Suzhou Lighting Co., Ltd.* 1 (Intematix Suzhou Lighting), requesting for the invalidation of the Chinese patent (No. ZL201110066517.7; “the patent”* 2 ) for red phosphor, a material used extensively in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), owned by MCC and NIMS. The board approved the validity of the patent, and MCC and NIMS received the written decision effective May 10.

Mitsubishi Chemical, Pioneer Develop Bluelight-Free OLED Lighting Module

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Pioneer Corporation announced that MCC and Pioneer have successfully developed the first bluelight-less OLED lighting module made with a wet coating process for the light-emitting layer, and will begin shipping samples on August 1.

Mitsubishi Chemical Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Chinese Red Phosphor Maker

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroaki Ishizuka) today announced that on January 23, the company filed a suit in the Intermediate People's Court in Shenzhen City alleging that products of Yantai Shield Advanced Materials Co., Ltd. and U.S.-based Intematix Corporation infringed on a patent (Chinese patent no. ZL201110066517.7, etc.) for red phosphor owned by MCC and National Institute for Materials Science. MCC seeks an injunction on the production and sale of phosphors in China and damages in this lawsuit.

Mitsubishi Chemical Wins Appeal Against Intematix for Red Phosphor Patent

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and National Institute for Materials Science today announced that the Patent Court of Korea rejected an appeal by U.S.-based Intematix Corporation contesting a patent for red phosphor owned by MCC and NIMS (Korean Patent No. 816693) — a material used extensively in light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

Mitsubishi Chemical Improves LED Phosphor Supply with Chinese OEM

Mitsubishi Chemical plans to seek for Chinese companies, to contract for its production of LED fluorescent powder in 2013. And the output of fluorescent powder is expected to be twice as current. The Japanese company holds 50%-80% global market share for red fluorescent powder, and it intends to manufacture red fluorescent powder in mainland China, and has invested 400 million JPY to acquire 30% shareholding in Beijing Nakamura-Yuji Science and Technology Co.
