LED Upgrade Saves Detroit Metropolitan Airport US$1.2M Annually

Power management company Eaton announced that its Cooper Lighting division’s McGraw-Edison Valet and Ventus light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires are replacing 6,050 existing parking garage fixtures at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) to improve efficiencies and optical lighting performance. The conversion will result in a 66 percent reduction in power consumption with an anticipated overall energy and maintenance savings of approximately US$1.2 million annually.

Eight Bangladesh Cities to Switch to LED Lighting

Eight city corporations in Bangladesh will be replacing fluorescent and sodium street lights to energy saving LED lights, according to local newspaper The Daily Star. The replacement to LED is estimated to save the province 10 megawatts (MWs) of electricity per day. In other words, additional 5,000 households can be powered every day as the lights consume less than 30 to 40 percent energy than existing lights.

New York Street Lights to be upgraded to LED

Streetlights in the Big Apple are getting a major makeover to more energy efficient LEDs, according to Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Newsday news reports. New York will be replacing 250,000 street lights with LED lamps by 2017, said the city mayor Michael Bloomberg. The LED replacements are expected to help the city cut US$ 14 million in electric and maintenance costs.
