There has been many rumors and speculations floating around the internet as to who will be the provider of OLED panels for Apple’s new iWatch. An increasing number of sources have been pointing their fingers towards LG lately.

That is where the Eagle 600 bike light comes in. It is the first ever bike light to use an OLED display screen that notifies you to when it will die. 

Takram design engineering (takram) have designed and developed an OLED (Organic Electro-Luminescence) installation titled “Cradle of Light” to be presented at Light and Building 2014, the world’s largest lighting and architecture exhibition (Frankfurt Germany from 30th March 2014). The installation demonstrate the compelling performance of Konica Minolta’s OLED Lighting Panel, the world’s thinnest* and world’s first* color tunable function for flexible type.

Toshiba highlighted several Chip Scale Package products  at the  Light + Building 2014 show that runs from March 31 to April 4, 2014 at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Germany.

LG Chem is currently participating in the biannual Light + Building Exhibition held at Messe Frankfurt. 

LG Electronics (LG) will mark the expansion of its global lighting business by introducing its newest lighting products at the Light+Building 2014 trade show from March 30 to April 4 at the Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre in Germany. Under the theme of Simply Smart in Lighting, LG will showcase advanced lighting technologies in the areas of Energy Savings & Payback, Connect & Control and Comfort & Well-being.

Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS) 2014 was bigger than ever this year, held jointly with LED Taiwan for the first time. Organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA, TILS 2014 was held at the Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei from March 20-23. It showcased over 333 manufacturers and attracted around 16,000 visitors from around the world during the four day show. 

International Lighting manufacturer Panasonic has been active in strategizing the OLED lighting market. Their OLED panels already have a luminous efficacy of 110lm/W, said Research Director Takuya Komoda. As mass production is driving down costs, OLED use in office lighting is anticipated to spur a new replacement trend in 2014-2015. 

“OLED lighting has a bright future” was a common theme at the Solid State Lighting forum 2014 where many manufacturers touted the advantages of OLED technology in comparison with LED. Among the many advocates was Manfred Weigand, Global OLED lighting Marketing Director for Merck. According to Weigand, a future where OLED becomes a true competitor with LED is absolutely obtainable.

Lighting Japan 2014 was comprised of three specialized shows, including the LED/OLED Lighting Expo, making it the biggest ever. Running from Jan. 15-17, the show was held at Big Sight Tokyo. Global lighting heavy weights including Philips, Osram, GE, Panasonic, and Toshiba to name a few, all displayed their new products for the upcoming year. LED components were not the only focal point of the expo. Lighting application and high density integration (HDI) systems also draw a lot of attention from buyers and visitors. OLED application in lighting was another notable trend during the show. 

At Lighting Japan 2014, it was clear that large manufacturers have been quickening their pace in introducing OLED into the lighting market. Large international manufacturer Osram spoke about developing OLED in the lighting market during the lighting expo.

Price tag for Samsung OLED TVs will not drop anytime soon as the industry still faces some hurdles to overcome in the manufacturing process.

In recent years, LED technology has been the fastest growing in solid-state lighting, with a market penetration rate estimated to exceed 60 percent in 2014, according to LEDinside. PPG Industries and Universal Display Corporation today marked the opening of a world-class organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials production facility at PPG’s Barberton, Ohio plant. Cheil Industries, a Samsung Group company specializing in textiles, will invest up to 1.8 trillion won (US $1.7 billion) for the next three years in high value-added electronic and chemical materials. The company said this on November 7 in a regulatory filing. The areas it will focus on include OLED (organic light-emitting diode), rechargeable battery separators, and polarized film.
