Lighthouse Displays at American Airlines Center to Add More Excitement to Mavericks and Stars Games

Lighthouse Technologies announced to have begun the installation of high definition LED screens at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Working with long time partner TS Sports, 25 Lighthouse LED screens, including four 1080p full HD screens on the center hung display, will be installed at the facility. The upgrade will be completed over the summer for the 2009-2010 Dallas Mavericks’ and Dallas Stars’ seasons, according to the company.

Energy Focus, Inc. Selected To Provide LED Lighting for Virginia Class Attack Submarines

Energy Focus, Inc. announced yesterday that it has been selected to receive a $1.4 million contract by the Naval Research Warfare Center to develop and produce solid state lighting fixtures for use specifically on Virginia Class attack submarines. The new fixtures will replace single, double and triple tube fluorescent water tight fixtures now in use as well as provide solid state replacements for existing fluorescent based berth lights.

Blinx Releases Sound Responsive LED Earphones

Blinx has introduced new sound responsive LED earphones, reports Ubergizmo. The earphones are equipped with a control box which enables the LED to pulse according to the tune of the music being played. Each of these earphones and the central control box includes three blue LED lights. These earphones are compatible with any device housing a standard 3.5mm jack. Apparently, the earphones are powered by two ZA13HP batteries. The Blinx earphones are also said to bundle up foam earbud protectors and instruction leaflet.

Researchers Make LED Light Bulbs from DNA

Researchers at the University of Connecticut have made a new material that emits bright white light by adding fluorescent dyes to DNA and then spinning the DNA strands into nanofibers, according to a paper published online in the journal Angewandte Chemie. The researchers create white-light-emitting devices by coating ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with the material. They are even able to fine-tune the white color tone to make it warm or cold.

City officials say that the city has received a 50 thousand dollar grant for it to switch to new LED lights in different parts of the city.
