Edison’s net sales in June sets a record high over the past three years; new capacity will take place by the end of third quarter

The net sales of Edison, a Taiwanese LED packaging manufacturer, in June has set a record high over the past three years because the net sales of its investee company, Lumenmax, has officially been recognized in June, 2013 and more orders have come from Chinese lighting. In addition, Edison’s capital expenditure in 2013 reached NTD450 million in order to build the capacity for PLCC packaging components, high-efficiency packaging components, and COB components.

Edison’s CEO, Jason Wu, pointed out that their capital expenditure almost reached NTD450 million in 2013 in order to respond to the lighting market that’s rapidly moving forward. They will increase capacity on PLCC packaging components, high-efficiency packaging components, and COB components. Mr. Wu further mentioned that the demand for PLCC packaging components will be large in 2013 as the lead time in the market generally increased. The capacity for PLCC packaging components will be expanded from the original 150KK to 300KK. The capacity for high-efficiency packaging components will be expanded to 10KK and that of COB components will be increased to 1.5KK. The new capacity will take place by the end of third quarter.

Mr. Wu indicated that some Chinese energy-saving lamp manufacturers have been accelerating the progress towards adopting LED light source, which will also drive LED lighting demand. Edison’s net sales in June increased significantly due to the orders from energy-saving lamp manufacturers. Since Edison’s new capacity will continue to take place, their net sales in July and August is likely to increase, respectively, which will not be impacted by the inventory and decreasing backlight demand.

Besides, Edison invested in Lumenmax in the end of 2012 and they currently held 66% of Lumenmax’s equity. So far, they have been working on production line integration. Edison will be in charge of Lumenmax’s previous PLCC packaging line while Lumenmax will keep their brand and R&D in the future.
