Award Winning Designers in the 2014 AL Awards Turn to Philips Lighting Solutions

The following blog post was written by Megan Haas from Philips Color Kinetics

The 2014 Light and Architecture Design Awards, presented by Architectural Lighting magazine on August 12, showcase remarkable installations that “set a benchmark for excellence in architectural lighting design and serve as a guide for others working with light.” The lighting in these installations does more than illuminate—it influences spaces and inspires people. The winning lighting designers have mastered the art of transforming spaces by weaving light into the environment with innovative techniques.

More than 100 entries were reviewed by a jury of four leading architects and lighting designers.

Three out of the ten recognized installations feature Philips lighting solutions.

The lighting makeover at the Schindler Elevator Corporation headquarters highlights the company’s core values and mission statement by improving the building’s sustainability and showcasing the company’s innovative engineering. Glass hallways were designed using more than 2,200 feet of Philips Ledalite TruGroove Linear Recessed and Ledalite’s Chopstick LED Suspended fixtures to create the appearance of looking down an elevator shaft. The glass walls extend deep into the building, integrating the daylight with the LED light to make a definitive architectural statement.
