The Montgomerie Maxx Royal Belek Golf Resort in Antalya, Turkey – home of the Turkish Airlines Open – has installed the latest connected lighting technology to allow play after sunset.

The five-star resort – where Victor Dubuisson won the opening event of the European Tour Final Series on Sunday – has fitted nearly 120 remotely managed lighting poles on holes nine to 18.

The 379 connected LED lights can be individually controlled with a tablet computer to recreate natural daylight, while the hydraulic poles can be raised or lowered when needed.

Each connected LED light’s precise angle and position has been determined using topographical data to avoid shadows at crucial moments of play. And all fairway lights face in the direction of play to prevent glare and allow players to track the ball in the air.

The project is the latest example of Philips technology transforming top level sport. The company’s connected LED lighting has already enabled Formula One night racing in Singapore, and provided stadium lighting capable of supporting ultra-slow motion replays in high-definition television for the likes of Chelsea FC.
