Avnet Electronics Marketing Partners with Hong Kong Productivity Council in Energy Efficient LED Lighting Initiative

Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of the global technology distributor, Avnet, Inc., and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the promotion of the energy-saving LED lighting industry.

The two parties have signed the MOU to establish the cooperation relationship in the marketing, design and development of LED lighting in a variety of areas, including indoor lighting, street lighting, advertising, heat dissipation design, back-light for LCD TV and automotive applications.

Building energy codes are to be implemented for new buildings in Hongkong, with an estimated energy saving of 2.8 billion kilowatt hours in the first decade, and the carbon dioxide emission reduction of 1.96 million tonnes. And LED lighting can be an excellent energy-saving solution in this effort, said Frederick Fu, regional president of Avnet Electronics Marketing in China.

With the interest in long life, low-cost and energy efficient LED lighting extending beyond Hong Kong to the whole China market, many potential manufacturing customers as well as large scale end users all have turned to the HKPC for advice, and that’s why the MOU is the more valuable, added Fu.

"HKPC has been actively promoting the application of LED lighting technology and supporting Hong Kong companies to overcome the technical barrier in its deployment. said Frank Leung, general manager (Automotive and Electronics) of HKPC. "Through this cooperation, HKPC and Avnet can play a more active role in partnering with Hong Kong LED lighting product companies on the design and development of LED lighting products for appropriate applications, meeting the needs of customers and helping them achieve time-to-market benefit," added Leung.

The Avnet LED products have good performance in many aspects like thermal output, power efficiency, optics and colour quality. The Avnet Design Service and Segment Marketing team delivers "turnkey system solutions" from its in-house design centers and its third party design partners in Asia, thus enabling customers to "get to market faster."

There are six design centers of Avnet in Asia, covering Mainland China, Taiwan, India and Singapore. Each of the design centers provides first-class solutions and services to Avnet's customers and suppliers in the region. The solutions developed by the centers range from general illumination such as street lamps to architectural and advertising lighting.
