DNP of Japan Exhibits Flexible Light Emitting Poster Combining OLED and LED

Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd has developed a new flexible OLED-based poster by combining a regular EL panel and organic EL panels.

The 728 x 515 mm poster is currently exhibited by DNP Tohoku Co Ltd and DNP Media Create Co Ltd, subsidiaries of DNP, at the Eagles' stadium in Sendai City, Japan until April 11. The inorganic EL panel produces a high-luminance light from behind the printed color image and highlights the image so that it looks like an animation. And the two organic EL panels installed at the upper end of the light emitting poster scroll display text information including game schedules and notices with monochromatic light.

The light emitting poster is slightly flexible, so it can be placed on a curved surface.  It is also resistant to vibration and impact. The inorganic EL panel has a power consumption of about 60% of that of a fluorescent light and can run for 20,000 hours continuously.

The poster has additional advantages including a wide viewing angle and light weight. The size and shape can be designed at will.

The poster is expected to be released in 2010, according to DNP. The light emitting poster will be suggested as sales promotion media to be used in combination with leaflets, point-of-purchase advertising (POP) and digital signage, the company said. And the company is planning a system to deliver textual information to the poster via a network and a function to provide voice information.
