Harvatek Expands RGB LED Production Capacity as Display Market Presents Potential Growth

LED manufacturers are aiming to take advantage of business opportunities arising in the display market due to improvements in RGB LED package technology, increased image resolution, and growing demand driven by the upcoming international sports events. Taiwan LED package manufacturer Harvatek that launched their RGB LED product in 2013 is upgrading package specs from 2020 to 0606. The company’s current monthly production capacity for RGB LEDs is 50KK and projected to expand to 100KK in 2014.

The company has been improving its product portfolio and entering the display product supply chain, which has better gross profit. Harvatek has a positive outlook for the display market that is continuously pursuing higher color saturation, image resolution and shorter pitch. Harvatek’s current LED package specs include 2020, 1010, and 0606. Released in July of this year, 0606 LED has already entered mass production. However, RGB LED products with package spec 1010 still remain the favorite among clients.

The company’s benefits from entering  the display supply chain began showing in 3Q, and contributions from this sector to 4Q13 revenue is expected to increase.. The company’s current clientele is largely made up of Chinese display manufacturers. RGB LED products only make up a small portion of the company's total revenue. Display market revenue will be stimulated by RGB LED package spec reductions and use of new Driver ICs in 2014. Revenue proportion is hoped to increase from less than 5 percent in 2013 to 15 percent in 2014.

The company plans to continue RGB LED product R&D in 2013 as well as launch the next generation package spec 0404. Key factors affecting full color displays are not only LED package components, but the control system as well. The company therefore has teamed up with an offshoot of Driver IC manufacturer Macroblock to put their strengths together in LEDs and Driver ICs to develop the display market.
