Western Indian State Distributes 3,000,000 LED Bulbs within 19 Days

Gujarat, a state in Western India, has been distributing LED bulbs at a rapid pace. The state gave out up to 3,000,000 LED bulbs within a blink of 19 days under the Government of India’s UJALA program, reported Times of India.

The program allows local residents to purchase up to 10 LED bulbs at a discount price of INR 80 (US $1.19) each bulb. It’s estimated that residential consumers save around INR 336 per year using LED bulbs. In other words, the costs of LED bulbs are paid off within three months.

Positive feedback is received from residents in Gujarat, said Meelima Jain, the National Programme Manager of EESL. The program of LED bulbs distribution will have a crucial part in larger energy savings of the state.

According to EESL, the failure rate of LED bulbs provided under UJALA is only 0.31%. EESL also offers free replacement for any technical issues and three years of warranty. Replacements of LED bulbs can be made through any city that is under the distribution program.
