Samsung and LG Competes in 55-inch OLED TVs at IFA 2012

Samsung and LG exhibited 55-inch OLED TVs at IFA 2012. This is the first time that they have been exhibited at a trade show in Europe.

LG showed 3D video with special glasses and emphasized the slimness of a panel part (4mm).

Starting by releasing the 55-inch full-HD (1,920 x 1,080-pixel) TV within 2012, LG Electronics plans to launch a 4k2k (3,840 x 2,160-pixel) OLED TV with a size of 60 inches or larger in 2013.

"We expect that the price of the TV will be about 10,000 to 13,000 euro (in Europe)," the company said.

Samsung showed its 55-inch OLED TV at a press conference Aug 30, 2012.

"We will be the first company to release a 55-inch OLED TV in the market," the company said, showing a will to compete with LG Electronics.

The company intends to release the 55-inch OLED TV first in South Korea and then in various regions in the world. In Europe, its price will be about 10,000 euro, the company said.

Samsung Electronics demonstrated its "Multi View" technology, which makes use of the fast driving speed of OLED panel, in its booth. It enables two viewers to receive different movies and sounds by using special glasses equipped with active shutters and speakers.
