OSRAM Opto Semiconductors backlighting unique new 42" ultra-wide curved display from Ostendo Technologies

OSTAR®-Projection LED modules from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, Inc. are backlighting a new ultra-wide curved display from Ostendo Technologies, Inc.

The Ostendo CRVD™ curved display measures 42.4" diagonal and provides a 2880 x 900 pixel resolution (double WXGA+). The ultimate immersive desktop display, the CRVD™ wraps around the viewer while serving up billions of colors, >300 nits brightness, and a contrast ratio of >10,000:1. It is ideal for applications such as simulation, gaming, financial analysis, digital imaging, web-content creation or any desktop computing application that benefits from significant amounts of seamless real estate.

Backlighting the DLP®-based CRVD™ curved screen are OSRAM's OSTAR-Projection high-performance LED light sources. The compact OSTAR-Projection modules consist of six RGB LED chips that generate exceptional brilliance and vibrant colors with pure surface emission and extreme brightness, thanks to OSRAM’s Thinfilm and ThinGaN® chip architecture.

"It's an incredible display," said Tom Shottes, president and CEO of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, Inc. "This is the first display that provides such a wide field of view with such dynamic range and wide color gamut. We've worked with Ostendo since they began developing the technology. The high luminance and design flexibility of our OSTAR-Projection technology was a perfect fit."

"Our strong collaboration with OSRAM and the excellent performance of the OSTAR LEDs was key in bringing the CRVD™ design to fruition," said Dr. El-Ghoroury, Ostendo’s CEO. "We chose the OSTAR LED light source because of its quality, robustness, reliability and efficiency."

"We started working with OSRAM to employ the OSTAR LEDs in our product in early 2005, even prior to the official starting of the company," said Erhan Ercan, Ostendo's Director of Product Marketing. "We designed in the OSRAM OSTAR LEDs as the light source of choice for the CRVD™ by late 2005."

Ostendo featured prototypes of the CRVD™ curved display at MacWorld and the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year, and will be demonstrating the CRVD™ at the Society of Information Display (SID) 2008 Exhibition in Los Angeles at the OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' booth, May 20-22.
