Everlight to Expand LED Capacity in 2020 for UV and Mini LED Applications

Everlight, the Taiwan-based LED packager, announced that it will expand its LED capacity in 2020 mainly for automotive LEDs and invisible LEDs such as UV LED and IR LEDs.

The LED industry has been through a challenging year in 2019 and is expecting a rebound in 2020 with commercialization of Mini LED and Micro LED. Growth in horticulture lighting contributed by legalized cannabis production in North America is also a momentum for the industry.

Seeing the opportunity, Everlight is gearing up for the rising demands. The company reported a revenue of NTD 5.17 billion (US$169.31 million) for 3Q19 with an on-year drop of 17.7YoY. However, the gross margin increased by 2.1 bps to 25.9%.

Everlight noted that currently it only takes orders with high margin product so its profit did not drop as much as the revenue. For 3Q19, products for consumer electrics and mobile phone took 35% of its revenue, invisible light products took 28%, backlight products accounted for 19%, and the rest was lighting and others.

The company will target UV LEDs including UVA and UVC, horticulture lighting, and Mini LED backlight products for displays, monitors and TVs in 2020. Everlight expects to achieve a two digits business growth in 2020.
